Hunde Scheibe - 1989 -1990

Joey@loudrockmusic.com

In 1987 the Hunde Scheibe concept / story was created as a metaphor describing the life of "Simon" my black Labrador retriever. Simon was a free spirit and being so he sought freedom every chance he had. Hunde Scheibe members were said to have escaped from communist eastern block Germany to seek their freedom just prior to the fall of the Berlin wall. Fleeing to Albany, CA, USA in the late 1980's they hid from the communist secret police in a basement, practicing their songs, and creating their disguises. On rare ocassions the group would surface to play an underground show.

Hunde Scheibe once played with Operation Ivy in Dave and Pat Mello's parent's garage and their final show at the Cloin Court frat house on the UC Berkeley campus in 1990.

One night "Gas" made an appearance at The Gilman Street Project. Much to Gas's surprise, Aaron Elliot, the door man that night saw right through his disguise and greeted "Gas" by his real first name. Since that night the disapearence of Aaron Elliot still remains a mystery. Perhaps he joined the ranks of Hunde Scheibe and is now in hiding.

Until now the group's true identities have not been revealed.

These are the aliases under which they were known.

  • Gas - Guitar - Joey Schaaf
  • The Priest - Vocals - Dave Mello
  • Slope - Bass - Pat Mello
  • The Rock - Drums - Rockesh
